27th November 2018, Hulu Langat – As part of EcoKnights’ CEPA efforts to promote sustainable living to the public, a workshop on the importance of sustainable practices in nurseries and kindergartens was conducted by the organization’s president, Yasmin Rasyid, today.
Thirty nursery and kindergarten educators were trained to have a basic understanding of sustainable food waste management in their premise, and how to engage their young students to be engaged and involved in this sustainability effort as part of the school’s curriculum.
The workshop started with an introduction on the importance of acquainting young children to the basic understanding of their relationships with nature before the workshop focused on the importance of inclusive participation of children in understanding the basics of sustainable food management.
Yasmin also shared the multiple approaches to composting with a specific focus on backyard composting. She offered the opportunity for their premise to get a free bin if they are keen to pick up composting in their learning spaces.
The workshop is delivered in support of the Petaling Jaya Local Council’s Low Carbon City Framework for the city of Petaling Jaya, an effort that aims to engage the public in low carbon initiatives towards sustainable cities development.
