4th February 2020 (Tuesday) – EcoKnights facilitated a DIY soap-making workshop for 30 participants from Thermo Fisher Scientific Group at Sunway Clio Hotel, Petaling Jaya. Under the School of Sustainability program, the Community Development & Education (CDE) pillar of EcoKnights led the briefing and gave a step-by-step guide to the soap-making process.
In the beginning, participants were given a short introduction on how normally used cooking oil is disposed of into our environment and how it contributes to polluting our riverway. Followed by a demonstration by EcoKnights, the participants learned how to convert used cooking oil into usable soap using a simple mechanism that can be adopted easily.
Through demonstrating their commitment and passion, a total of 60 household bar soaps were produced! All these soaps, once cured, will be donated to the needy community. Last but not least, before we ended the day, each participant was given a cured household soap bar to try at home.
This workshop is in alignment with the River of Life (ROL) project whose main focus is to rehabilitate the water quality of the rivers in Klang Valley region.
