13 August 2018, Kota Kemuning – On 9th August 2018, we started a lovely morning with a composting workshop with 20 Starbucks Malaysia staff at the Starbucks Coffee Kota Kemuning branch. By having hands-on experience through the composting workshop, the staff are able to have a better understanding of backyard composting to contribute to the edible garden in this particular branch. The branch also obtained a compost bin from EcoKnights to be placed at the garden to covent garden waste, food waste and coffee grain into compost that would later be used as fertiliser for their garden. The staff were also on duty to conduct garden maintenance at the edible garden, hence enhancing their knowledge and interest in urban gardening, which would be shared with Starbucks customers as well.
The edible garden project started 5 years ago and resulted in a beautiful edible garden that grows fresh vegetables and herbs such as pandan, bunga telang, kafir lime, turmeric and long beans, to name a few. This garden is regularly taken care of and maintained by trained Starbucks staff. Starbucks customers are welcomed to harvest some products from the garden.
