Aileen Tan is also the Executive Director of the Asia-Pacific University-Community Engagement Network (APUCEN) with expertise in marine science, specializing in mariculture, ecology and conservation of molluscs. Aileen Tan has championed the work on green aquaculture for sustainable food security not just for Malaysia but also for the region.  She has committed herself and made impactful contributions in guiding the coastal communities and the bottom billion on alternative livelihood through sustainable green aquaculture and also educating the coastal community on balancing profit with conservation of the environment.
