EcoKnights proudly present its latest digital initiative in collaboration with Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Holdings Berhad (MHB); under MHB Go Green initiatives – Seed for Stories (S4S): The New Norm Video Competition!
We kicked off December with an interactive online class that focuses on sustainability advocacy through digital means! This is the first of many events to come for the MHB Go Green Campaign, further fuelled by EcoKnights. The training for the competition was held virtually on the 2nd of December via Google Meets.
The Ecoknights team interactively catered to 60 secondary students from the SMK Datuk Penggawa Timur (SMKDPT) and also children of the MHB staff – shining a light on some tips, tricks, and knowledge in storytelling and video-making to the participants. The session was also graced by the presence of special guests, Puan Nor Mariam Mohd Nazir, Head of Corporate Communications Department of MHB, and Fadly Bakhtiar, Programme Director of EcoKnights.
During the opening launch, Puan Nor Mariam Mohd Nazir as the Head of Corporate Communications Department of MHB gave her welcoming speech to the students, inspiring them to take the opportunity to learn new skills during this stay-at-home decree and embark on the digital media journey. This is followed by a virtual group photo together with the participants, as well as the speakers, and facilitator from EcoKnights.
The Seed for Stories’ mission is to teach youths who are determined to explore more on the essentials of creating content by making use of effective communication tools and developing strategic digital media tactics.
The first session was presented by Fara Amina, Digital Content Officer of EcoKnights. Titled “The Power of Storytelling in Digital Advocacy”, Fara shared invaluable lessons on the key areas in producing content, materializing ideas into writing, as well as some tips on elevating the voice of the young generation for a greater Call to Action.
After a 2-hour lunch break, the session continued with a session led by Adlin Saufi, Videographer and Visual Editor of EcoKnights to talk about The Power of Storytelling through Audio/Visual Materials in Digital Advocacy. Adlin gave some key points, tips, and tricks on the fundamentals of video-making and editing. The students were given significant guidance and directions by both Adlin and Fara for their endeavor in producing impactful video content of their own.
EcoKnights strongly believe that this will be a great headstart for the youths to express and create content that is both visually compelling and thought-provoking content – further proven by their high spirit in partaking during the live session. The fun & interactive training sessions, aided by different activities, helped instill a creative thought process for the participants.
The central theme for this video competition is “The New Norm”. All participating students are required to produce a 2-minutes video, centering the theme of New Norm, a theme that is more common now due to the global outbreak of the COVID-19. From the live session, the students are encouraged to employ the various techniques learned during the training and to create meaningful videos, depicting life during a pandemic.
Before wrapping up the online class, EcoKnights’ Programme Director, Fadly Bakhtiar gave the participants supporting words of encouragement and remind them to stay safe at home, and to channel their creative side while staying sane – as further motivation for them to go through this pandemic.
With the deadline right around the corner, we are excited to see the submissions from these promising participants. The deadline for the video competition is on the 15th December 2020, Friday while the winner’s announcement will be on the 22nd December 2020.
