30th May 2019 (Friday) – The EcoKnights team conducted a seedbomb-making workshop for more than 70 children from the Rumah Pengasih Warga Prihatin orphanage in Kajang. The event was part of “Projek Pelangi” by the Bank Muamalat, and gave children the opportunity to get their hands dirty and create their individual veggie seedbombs.
Kids between the ages of 4-12 were involved and experienced the simplicity of making a veggie seedbomb by themselves. Seedbombs consist of natural clay, organic fertilizer, and seeds which are compressed into a ball. The benefit of a seed bomb is that no additional soil is required and just adding some water on a regular basis will be enough to let the plant thrive. In this way, it is very easy to grow your own organic vegetables, without using a lot of equipment.
As the process is very simple, seedbomb-making is suitable for almost all ages. It provides a way to visualize how to grow some of our own food, especially since our current younger generation is lacking knowledge on where our food is coming from and how much time and effort is needed to grow our own crops. If you are interested in the process of how to make a seedbomb, you can reach the team at info@ecoknights.org.my or give a call at +6 (03) 7731 8361.
