19th September 2018 – An exclusive log boom clean up activity was held for the media and social influencers at Gombak River. There were 18 media and social influencers present that participated in the collection and segregation of the trash collected from the log boom. Some even got the chance to step onto the log boom to collect the trash, for their safety they were geared with a hazmat suit. The objective of this activity is to give the media and social influencers a first-hand experience on the amount of trash that enters our rivers and for them then share their experience to the masses on the current state of our rivers.  The trash were collected and segregated in a 40-minute session, where approximately 87.8 KG of trash with 65% mostly organic waste followed by 30.8 KG of plastic, polystyrene, paper, textile, glass and metal. This exclusive event was attended by, Tuan Haji Md. Khairi, Director of River Basin Management from the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) and Mr. Wan Marhafidz, the Deputy Director of River Basin Management from the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID); they addressed the media on the current conditions of the rivers, efforts carried out by DID and ways to move forward in the future.
