Driven by its corporate mission to develop a sustainable society, Epson Malaysia, a leader in the field of printing and visual technology, is launching its printer sustainability campaign called “Be Cool” – which aims to educate and empower businesses to adopt greener printing practices with Epson Heat-Free technology. As part of this campaign, a virtual forum themed “Building Business Resilience through Sustainable Technology” was held to drive conversations surrounding environmental-friendly business practices and its impact in the recovering economy. The forum also includes a Memorandum of Understanding signing between Epson Malaysia and EcoKnights on the partnership for the Be Cool campaign.
As Malaysia moves towards becoming a high-technology country by 2030, there is a need to continuously innovate by promoting growth and giving support to the businesses to move from linear economies to circular ones. One way to do so is to improve the efficiency of using finite resources with a zero-waste approach while exploring greener alternatives for everyday consumption.
Speaking at the virtual forum, Daisuke Hori, Managing Director of Epson Malaysia, shares how the company’s innovation can help to reduce environmental impact caused by everyday business activities: “As printing is still a key activity in many businesses, organizations must choose to print more sustainably. Oftentimes, people assume that eco-friendly technology is expensive. Epson-Heat Free Technology has shown its sustainability commitment by aligning with the global sustainability trends in energy conservation and carbon footprint reduction – in every print. This is also in line with Epson Vision 2050 which outlines our efforts in contributing to the development of a sustainable society by leveraging efficient, compact and precision technologies to reduce the environmental impact of products and services across their life cycles.”
With Epson Heat-Free technology, Epson inkjet printers consume up to 85% less energy than a similar-speed laser printer. For a typical office that requires frequent printing, this can amount to distinct savings in their annual energy bills. Inkjet printers also produce up to 85% less carbon dioxide than those of comparable laser printers. This means that for every 6 cedar trees required to absorb the amount of carbon dioxide as a result of using a laser printer, an Epson inkjet printer requires only 1 cedar tree.
During the panel discussion, Mr. Fadly Bakhtiar, Programme Director of EcoKnights talks about the current emphasis on exploring green technology in business development as the most viable way to becoming more sustainable.
“With the increasing awareness of climate change, more companies are walking the talk and taking the route to make their operations more sustainable. It’s also important for companies to develop a sustainability-oriented organizational culture for the employees. This is possible through collaborative efforts with NGOs in promoting environmentally-friendly practices and policies for the employees, in the same way that Epson is supporting EcoKnights through its Trees For Us initiative. To become a nation that is sustainably developed, businesses need to shift strategic changes from the traditional economy to a green economy,” chimed Fadly.
Established in 2005, EcoKnights is a non-governmental environmental organization that focuses on working with key stakeholders to drive and empower sustainable actions for a better planet. The NGO does this by developing and implementing programs and activities across five pillars. Sustainable community development is the core of all EcoKnights efforts and this is delivered through policy advocacy, on-ground and hands-on community efforts, corporate partnerships, youth volunteerism and strategic engagements as well as fundraising programs.
Other guests who were present at the forum include Senior Manager-Product Management of Epson Singapore, Jester J. Cruz., who offered insights on the business benefits of switching to EcoTank printers.
The Epson Be Cool campaign also aims to raise RM20,000 in donations for EcoKnights trees planting initiative through their sale proceeds of EcoTank printers during the campaign period, starting from 29 March 2021 to 30 June 2021.
