30th April 2019, Kuala Lumpur – During the month of April, EcoKnights collaborated with Kenanga Investment Bank for their annual Earth Month Programme “Green at Work”. The objective of this year’s programme was to encourage Kenanga’s employees to contribute to a zero waste and more sustainable lifestyle.
The programme launched on the 5th of April where Kenanga’s employees got the opportunity to redeem organic zero waste bulk foods after bringing in recyclable plastic waste. A booth provided by The Hive, offered the opportunity for employees to purchase zero waste products and to reduce their individual use of plastic.
From the launch onwards, every Wednesday of the month, varying vegetarian lunches were provided to contribute a reduction of the carbon footprint, followed by different workshops for 35 Kenanga employees each. Starting with a DIY Sugar Scrub workshop on the 10th of April, the participants experienced how to create natural organic body care with only few ingredients. Many cosmetic products contain microplastics which end up in our seas and rivers. However, it does not require many ingredients to recreate our own beauty care.
On the 17th of April, the Kenanga team got a hands-on experience on how to make Kokedama, a Japanese moss ball with an ornamental plant led by Begonia Handmade Craft.
The week after, 35 employees created their own Desktop Aquaponics System. After an introduction of nowadays’ impact of the food industry and the benefits of urban farming, the participants were able to recreate an own small ecosystem in a jar.
At the close of, EcoKnights staff and the Kenanga employees and family members visited the Urban Hijau farm and participated in a farm tour as well as several activities such as Black Soldier Fly composting or preparing farm grown foods.
A group photo at the farm marked the end of the Earth Month Programme. Hope the participants of every activities throughout the month are now empowered to start a zero waste and more sustainable lifestyle.
