On behalf of Dow and EcoKnights
It was a meaningful way to spend a beautiful Saturday morning with the community, friends and colleagues; as more than 200 of Dow employees joined the Bunus Fun Walk for River (BFW4R) 2019 at Sungai Bunus near Taman Titiwangsa.
BFW4R 2019 was originally scheduled on 28 September but was postponed to 19 October due to the haze condition caused by bush/plantation fires in a neighboring country. Coincidentally, to raise public awareness on human’s impact to the environment, we planted 50 fruit trees as part of our environmental effort at BFW4R. It is a known fact that every mature tree can help to reduce 21.8 kg of CO2 equivalent per annum, and with 50 trees, we would be able to help and reduce carbon footprint by more than one metric tonne of C02 equivalent per annum.
Through this walk, we successfully raised funds to build a landmark project – the first cycling and jogging track in Malaysia to be built using Dow’s water-based binder technology ECOGROUND™. This technology replaces the conventional solvent-based binder with a safer option. This low VOC (volatile organic compound) technology won the prestigious global R&D 100 award a few years ago. It has good durability, is vibrant and exhibits long-lasting color aesthetics.
Through this engagement, we also aim to start a meaningful conversation on the importance of a proper waste management and the importance of a low-VOC environment. To ensure biodiversity preservation, this project has planted fruit trees to attract birds to the park. Our vision is to transform the park into a clean and beautiful habitat so that all of us, especially the neighboring community, can visit the park for leisure, do outdoor activities, exercise and stay healthy together.
Since the fundraising started in early September, we have successfully raised RM 106,000, which is sufficient to build a stretch of 0.8 kilometers, or an area roughly 2,000 square meters of the water-based cycling and running track loop, close to Pulapol. We want to acknowledge and thank the following donors for their generous support:
Dow Malaysia | RM 57,000 |
Infinity Logistics and Transport | RM 10,000 |
Encik Wong Kim Loong | RM 10,000 |
Kementerian Perdagangan Antarabangsa & Industri | RM 5,000 |
Finn Chemical | RM 5,000 |
Sunway Ausmat | RM 5,000 |
Dow Malaysia employees | RM 4,000 |
Colt Chemical | RM 3,000 |
WWRC Malaysia | RM 3,000 |
Excel Specialty | RM 1,000 |
Perlaburan Hartanah Berhad | RM 1,000 |
Encik Chia Weng Lock | RM 1,000 |
We also would like to express our greatest appreciation to DBKL, LA21 and Jawatan Kuasa Komuniti Sungai Bunus for their steadfast support for this year’s project.
