Guardians Against Garbage(GAG)
Guardians Against Garbage is an initiative under the RRC pillar that aims to raise public awareness on solid waste challenges at several ecosystems. The initiative is threefold:
River Log Boom Cleanup: Participants will be exposed to first-hand experience and understanding of the impact of solid waste in the riverine system especially in the city. They will be involved in scooping, segregating, weighing and recording all collected trash for further data compilation. In addition, a simple mudball workshop will be conducted to educate the participants on the river rehabilitation approach.
Beach Cleanup: Participants will be involved in a mass clean-up session at the beach, in which they will be collecting and segregating marine debris washed ashore along the beachline, to better understand the composition of debris and its danger towards our aquatic life. A simple sharing of the convenience of single-use plastic versus its impact on our ecosystem will also be conducted post-cleanup.
Park Cleanup: Participants will be part of the unique and hands-on experience of plogging cleanup! Described as “picking up litter while jogging”, participants will explore a certain trail or path and collect trash to ensure public cleanliness and environmental wellness. In addition, a simple sustainable workshop will also be conducted to educate the participants on rehabilitation efforts as well as proper waste management in general.
