The second phase of Project H2O Build for Air Kuning water supply was a success; a project collaborated between EcoKnights, Aveda, Build for Tomorrow and Allianz on 23rd June 2018. Phase Two of the project achieved its target to supply the Temuan community of Kampung Orang Asal Air Kuning located in the outskirts of Taman Botani Negara in Shah Alam a source of water for the long run; however, distribution of the water filtration system will take place in the next few days.
Project H2O was founded by EcoKnights to provide education on water safety and address health issues related to water. In addition, this project also channels water filtration systems to various communities, with its aims to provide either a rainwater harvesting system, water pump system or water filtration system which will provide accessibilities to the beneficiaries for their personal consumption. Furthermore, this project also provides informal and systematic education on safe drinking water for the beneficiaries and water-related education and activities as an alternative source of water for daily use.
The first phase of this project was the installation of a piping system and tanks throughout the village grounds. This new piping system will provide a reliable source of water for drinking purposes and general domestic use for 86 people; the population of the Temuan community. On the other hand, the community would not have to pay any utility bills. Furthermore, Build for Tomorrow also installed solar powered lights along the village pathways to further secure the community of their basic necessity; lights.
The system installed was an ‘Off the grid water supply system’ as shown below.
In regards to Phase Two last Saturday, the parties involved were tasked to touch up the distribution pipes scattered around the village grounds by filling them with concrete to strengthen them. Despite the pouring rain throughout the day, we along with 7 committed volunteers soldiered on and managed to complete the project before noon.
EcoKnights is delighted that the Temuan community of Air Kuning will finally have access to clean water for drinking and general domestic use. As clean water is a fundamental human right, it is about time a marginalised community such as the one of Air Kuning would have access to such. We hope to engineer more projects like this as clean water should be free for everyone.
