KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 (Bernama) – Around 500 children and adults gathered at the Sungai Bunus Retention Pond near the Tasik Titiwangsa public park today at 7am to take part in the Bunus Fun Walk 4 River 2018.
Organised by the Sungai Bunus Action Group (SBAG), Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and Local Agenda 21 Kuala Lumpur, participants walked for 3.5km and joined the fun and educational activities along the way at its checkpoints.
To show their support for healthy rivers, adults and children took part in water quality testing, tree-planting, rock and face painting, and a zumba workout.
“Alhamdulillah, we’ve received good support and raised the RM15,000 targeted to organise activities which will increase awareness about the human impact on rivers,” SBAG chairperson, Yasmin Rasyid, told Bernama.
The fundraising event was officiated by Deputy Federal Territories Minister, Datuk Dr Shahruddin Md Salleh.
“It is everyone’s responsibility to keep rivers clean. Sungai Bunus is in a bad state; it’s water quality index classification is 4,” he said.
“I commend anyone who organises programmes like this to raise awareness on issues of importance,” he added.
Among the aims of SBAG are to advance community-based projects and develop an urban farm along a 9km stretch of Sungai Bunus.
