27th June 2019 (Thursday) – EcoKnights had facilitated a DIY soap-making session for 55 internal staff members of the Shangri-La Group at the Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.
The participants learned how to turn used cooking oil into self-made soap which can be used for hand and dish-washing, after it has been set air-dried for a month. Most people are not aware that reusing your cooking oil is actually possible, very easy and beneficial for the environment. Pouring oil into the sink can lead to solidification within pipes, sewage lift stations or tighten the water flow and cause plugging at home. Therefore, giving oil a new purpose is a great way to slow down this process or even avoid these consequences. These soaps are a great alternative to regular dishwashing soap or hands soap which can contain chemicals or microplastics.
All participants at the Shangri-La Hotel showed enthusiastic commitment and creativity using different types of essential oil or used coffee grounds as add-ons to their soaps. EcoKnights hereby thank all parties involved in the great session and are looking forward to future collaborations.
