SK BUKIT Tadom, a small school in Banting, Selangor, with around 100 pupils, received a helping hand after it was badly hit by floods in December last year.
Non-governmental organisation EcoKnights and Taiwan Excellence joined hands to clean-up and help upgrade the school.
Taiwan Excellence, through its “Project Bumi – Meet The Needs” environment, social and governance (ESG) campaign, contributed products such as kitchen safety devices, sensor flush kits and waterproof paint to the school.
About 90% of SK Bukit Tadom schoolchildren are Orang Asli.
Late last year, EcoKnights programme director Fadly Bakhtiar approached SK Bukit Tadom headmistress Mimi Hidayah Muhd Adam to organise a gotong-royong at the school.
A team of 100 volunteers from EcoKnights participated in the gotong-royong.
The team also contributed new furniture and printers.
Not long after that, Taiwan Excellence reached out to EcoKnights, offering to help the school to ease its financial burden.
Mimi said the efforts of Taiwan Excellence and EcoKnights had tremendously helped the teachers and pupils.
“The school has 13 teachers, and six of their houses were affected by the floods. We felt completely hopeless,” she said.
The flood caused major damage to the school.
Meanwhile, Fadly said, “We hope that other large companies will make their products and services accessible to the community.
“This is not only to serve the community, but also to open the minds of these young children by introducing them to all these innovative products.”
