This gnarled and knobbly tree is just off the Lepoh waterfall trail in Ulu Langat. One has to be sharp-eyed to spot it as it is hidden amongst the foliage at the edge of a dried-up stream. It appears to me as a sentinel of the forest.

Majestic trees are not only found in forests! The Rain Tree, Samanea saman, is a grand tree that can easily be grown in the confines of a city. Its extensive branches and lush canopy provide much needed respite from the heat and sun, while supplying clean air and regulating temperature. In this picture, the buildings are framed by trees, suggesting the supreme importance of nature and green spaces, even in the built environment of the city. Every majestic 70-metre dipterocarp began life as little more than a 70-centimetre sapling, rising out of the earth where there is light, growing with ingle-minded devotion towards that great canopy which is shelter and life and ome to so many creatures of the rainforest, great and small. We often imagine that the strength of trees is best represented by large, robust trunks. But we overlook the incredible diversity of trees that are adapted to some of the most inhospitable habitats, such as the Baeckea frutescens depicted here. Its roots cling onto the windswept ridges of Ulu Kelang with an unparallelled ferocity, a symbol of hope on the Klang Gates Ridge—the world's longest quartzite ridge—which is, even now, being threatened by damage in the name of development. The majesty, grandeur and complexity of trees, depicted in this silhouette of branches, owe themselves to a source of far greater power: the sun. Without the sun, there would be neither trees nor life on earth. Spark of Life Catholic High School, Jalan Gasing, Petaling Jaya 20 June 2012

The roots of the Saraca cauliflora are adapted for life by the rushing waters of Malaysia's tropical rivers. They form an elaborate network in the loose soil of the riverbank, compacting the soil and turning it into island-mats of earth. The Saraca is, like all trees, nourished by the river, and in turn it becomes a bastion of support for riverside plant and animal life. The Samanea Saman tree that I want to share is located at the parking near the main entrance of the Hutan Lipur Kanching. It captured my sight when I went into the open space field for the search of others big trees. The creeping roots show that it has been so many decade there. The gorgeous epiphytes of Asplenium Nidus that grow on it show that the tree is matured. I just grab some photos of it and never though of sending it for competition but after I got homes. I think it's kind of nice picture to share with all.

Hi! y name is Pulai and I live in the Zoo Negara by the lake. I can grow very tall and big. Due to developments, many tall trees like me find hard to survive. My brother who grew beside me died because his root was terribly injured. Being tall trees among the smaller one is really dangerous. You can be struck by lightning at anytime your skin will split open from top to bottom and after that you died slowly. Location 3°12'33.08"N/ 101°45'22.49"E

I live in the Zoo Negara facing the lake. I am known as Angsana. I looked young because many months ago my top was cropped. I think I must have looked better now as I see a girl taking my photograph. Why am I saying that? Everyday I see many visitors passing by. No body seems to be interested in me and they hurriedly walk away to look at the animals. Location 3°12'33.08"N/ 101°45'22.49"E

In the Zoo Negara you can see me in the orang utan enclosure. My name is Mahogany . I am an immigrant. My original kampong is the forest of at Sungai Buloh - Subang before the area was developed into housing area and highway. I was a fully grown jungle tree when they dug me and transferred me to the zoo using trailers. Because my branches was too long I was top prune to fit into the lorry. I have been in the zoo for approximately 20 years now and I hope to live more years to come. Location 3°12'44.74" 101°45'32.18"E

Chanced upon this tree on the alternative trek to Sg. Lolo, Ulu Langat some months back. Been on the lookout for this kind of hollowed-out trees for more than 20 years. For a nature photographer, this is a very fine specimen. So I traced my way back to shoot it for this competition.

For this Strangling Fig to totally consume without a trace left of its host tree must have taken a long long time. Truly a sentinel of time this tree is. And the finest specimen of a Strangling Fig I have encountered in my more than 20 years of roaming the rainforests of Malaysia.

Tower of Terror This photo was taken just 3km from Jabatan Hal Ehwal Orang Asli in Gombak. I call this Merbau, "Tower of TERROR", as our Orang Asli guide mentioned road construction workers were so fearful in downing this tree. As you can see, HE still stands TALL !

Uniquely Identifiable Here is a great example of a Meranti Tree which can be identified clearly from the uneven vertical lines on its bark. This shot was taken along Batu 18, Jalan Gombak, close to the Pahang border.

One of a Kind Canopy This particular Merbau has such a unique canopy with its bright Green leaves standing out in the middle of other dwarfing trees. Inseparable Until Human Intervention There was no Photoshop involved in this shot, truly someone decided to divorce this Merbau couple. It's such a shame to see their branches chopped off so they will not be in contact with each other and we just could not find a logical reason for it. These trees can be found along the Batu 16, Jalan Gombak bordering Pahang.

I am Still Standing ! This lonely Palm Tree can be found at Batu 15, Jalan Gombak close to the border of Pahang. According to our Orang Asli guide, there was a massive land slide which washed away most of the trees and vegetation leaving just this lonesome fellow as a memorial.

Classic Meranti Poser Here is a shot of a classic Meranti Tree. It was there posing along the hill slopes along Batu 16, Jalan Gombak bordering Pahang. The vertical lines on its trunk make it easier to identify the species. These trees along the slopes seem to have survived the chainsaw massacre as it was too risky just to reach them.

Mentunas dengan harapan - This entry doesn't really fit into the word of Majestic, since they are just mangrove seedlings. But they represent hope for us, the hope for more stabilize beach from big waves, providing the oxgen, foods and shelter for little creature such as crabs, ikan belacak, fishes, etc. Thus creating a wholesome ecosystem. Captured in Gold Coast, Sepang.

The trees provide us oxygen, shelter for many animals and shade for us humans. Uniquely, 'limbungan' also means the dock yard, where ironically the trees were found just few metres away from Pantai Morib.

This majestic tree lives robustly in Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), Kepong grasped an old man's attention in the morning and he walked slowly to have a closer look. The tree with its firm base symbolizes that concept of "roots" and an element of an ongoing relationship with our surroundings. The canopy drawing in energy from its environment is symbolic of our need to absorb our cultural heritage in order to feel in tune with our evolution from times past.

This Pinyon Juniper species was captured in Damansara Jaya, the shoots of the tree grew in such a way that it forms a pattern as if it is a lamp shade to allow optimum sunlight to enter as well as protecting the individuals walking under the tree from excessive sunlight and rain .Besides ,the huge tree trunk which bends forward exhibits an image that looks like a natural lampost for the road users in the day, hence it is truly a majestic yet unique tree.

Thorned Trees - This photo of 3 "THORNED TREES" was taken in Kota Kemuning Selangor. These 3 gorgeous trees spreading out their unique branches horizontally along its main trunk. They seem as if supporting each other using their 'thorn-liked' branches. Even trees realized the importance of supporting each other. We human have a lot to learn from them.

Kota Kemuning - This photo of a special structured tree was taken in Kota Kemuning Selangor. My son yelled out, "Daddy, look at this beautiful tree, its root surfaced on the ground as if it is floating above the grass". True enough, the roots are well above ground as if they need a fresh breath of the air. My son is sitting on one of its root while I took this photo. Keep our water clean, keep our air fresh, and keep our trees unharmed. These beautiful trees took a few decades to grow to its gorgeous shape, but only a few minutes to be sawed down. Keep our trees, so that our grandson can sit on it with a loving smile.
Chin Kok Wah
Taman Rakyat Klang - I was going on an evening walk at Taman Rakyat Klang and observed a beautiful uniquely shaped tree in the park. I immediately took out my DSLR and take a shot of this tree. What's unique about this tree is that its main trunk branches out a secondary trunk. The secondary trunk on the right side, looks as if a sky board jumper is jumping down from above, leaving visible its 2 legs pointing upwards. This is the 1st time I saw such an amazingly uniquely shaped tree.
Chin Kok Wah
Pisang Waterfall - What's unique about this tree is that its trunk is long and STRAIGHT UP. Its as straight as a ruler. I have been to jungle trekking many times, and this is the 1st time I saw such an amazingly STRAIGHT tree. From the scene, it seems that this tree is pushing STRAIGHT UP to the highest part of the forest in competing with other trees over sun light, which is essential for its survival. When its trunk reach above other trees in the jungle, it branches out with a spread of green leaves. These leaves then absorbed sun light and photosynthesis process takes place to generate food for its survival.
