Under the new collaboration with Starbucks Malaysia for their Global Month of Service (GMoS) 2018, a community edible garden at Perumahan Awam Rumah Panjang Ikan Emas was launched successfully under the Green Outreach Program on 21st April 2018.
The launch was witnessesed by Mr Fadly Bakhtiar – EcoKnights Programme Director, Ms June Beh – Director of Partner Resourcers & Compliance, Starbucks, Encik Haji Md. Khairi Bin Selamat – Pengarah Pengurusan Lembangan Sungai, Dr. G. Balamurugan – Managing Director, ERE Consulting Group and Puan Yahidah – representative from Persatuan Penduduk Rumah Panjang Ikan Emas. There were more than 100 participants joined in this program, consisting of Starbucks’s volunteer, Sekolah Menengah Sains Alam Shah students, local communities and media.
Vegetation planting, temporary river fence installation, ‘gotong-royong’, plant tag-coloring, and mudball workshop were carried out for the establishment of the community edible garden. A total of seven (7) species of vegetation – tomato, eggplant, chili, okra, long bean, turmeric, and lemongrass were planted in the garden.
The launch of the community edible garden is the Phase 2 of this program, while Phase 3 will be the community workshops together with volunteers from Starbucks Malaysia. The edible garden activity ended with a sharing session on the maintenance of the community edible garden.
