14th December 2018, Sungai Bunus Retention Pond, Kuala Lumpur – Celebrating the very last and special tree planting engagement in 2018 supported by Vanke Holdings (M) Sdn Bhd to enrich the biodiversity around the river, EcoKnights planted 30 trees and conducted a mud ball throwing session along with their volunteers.
This CSR initiative is part of EcoKnights’ partnership with Vanke Malaysia to restore and rehabilitate degraded river banks in the city center, in the effort towards contributing to the city’s low carbon city framework.
All in all, 30 volunteers joined to plant 30 fruit trees consisting of Mangga Chokanan, Durian Belanda, Ciku Suban and Longan Berlian, using proper tree-planting mechanism to ensure the sustainability of the trees at the riverine area. Furthermore they were taught how to form mud balls and what their use is. Altogether, to remove toxins and excess biomass, everyone participated in the mud ball throwing into the river at the end.
Apart from the tree planting and mud ball forming, volunteers from various backgrounds got to learn about the importance of caring for the environment. They learned what it is like to work in teams and could proudly take a look at impact they have contributed to achieve a beautiful riverine area. It especially brought awareness to the youth who didn’t know that using mudballs is such an easy way to clean rivers. Some of them never planted trees before, hence it was definitely an enriching experience for them.
