URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Kuantan, 17th March 2017 -- The results of youth perception on bauxite development in Pahang was released today by NGO EcoKnights in Kuantan.
The research is a collaboration between Waseda University in Japan and local partners such as EcoKnights and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). Initiated last year, the research was conducted after the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) announced a moratorium on bauxite development in Kuantan.
The results of the research were presented today to the local stakeholders such as local government agencies, community groups, NGOs, university students, and academicians. The results presented today included outcomes of the soil and water quality analysis in selected bauxite mining areas and the perception of youth on the future of bauxite development.
The intention of this public release of the research result is to share with the bauxite mining stakeholders the views of the younger generation. It is also aimed at enhancing more awareness on bauxite development so that any future plans to continue the bauxite mining will be inclusive, be more environmentally careful, and takes into account the impact on the physical environment of the city of Kuantan.
