10 September, 2017, Kuala Lumpur – A river walk and assessment was conducted today among the partners of the Sungai Bunus Committee under the Local Agenda 21 effort of Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL). The Sungai Bunus Committee include partners that represent educational institutes (government schools and universities), business and corporate owners, government officials, NGOs, and also community or residential groups.
The river walk aims to get the community members and partners to understand the issues and challenges faced by Sungai Bunus and to stimulate the generation of ideas or solutions which are viable to address the rehabilitation and restoration of the river.
The Sungai Bunus committee has been established three years ago and is gradually working proactively on an annual basis with the relevant local authorities to help reduce the pollution load of the river, and to make Sungai Bunus the first green recreational space for city folks of Kuala Lumpur. The committee is working on connecting the entire riverine areas to facilitate cycling for KLites, and also to rehabilitate the riverbanks with the planting of fruit trees.
If you are a business owner, school teacher, NGO, or even just a concerned citizen, and would like to be part of this effort, kindly contact our River Officer, Emirul Redzuan at Emirul@ecoknights.org.my for more information on how you can play an active role and contribute to the improvement of Sungai Bunus.
