9 September, 2017, Kuala Lumpur – The EcoKnights River team together with the officers and consultants from ERE Consulting, and also engineers from Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) organized a community dialogue with four different riverine community groups of Sungai Kerayong.
This effort is part of the Phase 3A Public Outreach Program of the River of Life (ROL) national effort which is to improve the condition of Klang River. Sungai Kerayong is one of the eight rivers that is a key tributary that connects to the Klang River. The aim of the River of Life (ROL) national effort is to improve the quality of the river from its current status (Class IV and V) to at least Class 2B which means that the river is suitable for recreational purposes.
The community dialogue was designed to introduce the ROL to the community members, and also engage them to understand the issues and challenges faced by the community in terms of river protection. The team documented the concerns of the community with the aim of forming better community-centric efforts with the relevant authorities to work on community outreach and engagement with the respective community leaders.
If you happen to be a headmaster of a school, or a business, or even a community group that lives near Sungai Kerayong and would like to benefit from the KLEAR program, kindly contact our officer, Emirul Redzuan (Emirul@ecoknights.org.my) for more information.
