On the 20th June 2017, Ecoknights, in collaboration with ERE and the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) kick started the “Beg2Bekas” Ramadhan Campaign at the Bazaar Ramadhan in Taman Tenaga, Cheras. This programme is one of River Of Life - Public Outreach Programme (ROL-POP) components which aims to increase ecological consciousness among Malaysians to embrace sustainable lifestyle. One simple way of starting it off is by simply saying no to plastic bags.
EcoKnights and ERE, together with Encik Khairul and Encik Basir from JPS have gone all out promoting the campaign by distributing recycling bags and survey forms on the effect of plastic to the earth to the public. The initiative received notable responses from the general public. In order for the public to get the bag, they are required to answer a survey form. The survey aims to understand the public’s level of knowledge about plastic and how plastic can impact to the river’s water quality. At the end, there are 150 respondents answer the survey.
Through this campaign, EcoKnights hopes to educate the public on the importance of reducing the use of plastic bags and its impact to the earth. As Malaysia is moving towards becoming a greener nation, it is important for the citizens to engage in eco-friendly practices.
