KUALA LUMPUR, KL (16th October 2015) – The 8th International Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival (KLEFF), organized by a Malaysian environmental NGO, EcoKnights, announced the winners of its competition categories this evening at an awards ceremony hosted by MAP Publika and EcoKnights at the Black Box, Publika.
French filmmakers bagged two award categories tonight for the Best Animation and Best Short Film. Jean-Pierre Galland, Councellor for co-operation and cultural affairs of the French Embassy of Malaysia, presented the awards for these two categories.
Meanwhile, a representative from the U.S Embassy in Kuala Lumpur presented two awards to the film makers, namely Best Public Service Announcement (PSA) and the Jury Award.
The winners of the Best Wildlife Film was presented by the chief executive officer of environmental NGO, World Wide Fund for Nature Malaysia, Dato' Dr Dionysius S.K. Sharma.
Another two awards; Best Short Documentary/TV Documentary and Best Feature Film/Full-Length Documentary were presented by Christopher Ong, Managing Director of DHL Express Malaysia & Brunei.

This year’s Festival received 174 film submissions of which 116 of them were selected and include 38 features, 21 short films, 14 animations, 4 PSAs, and 39 short documentaries. The film submissions this year were from 47 countries worldwide.
“We are proud to honor the winning filmmakers, artists, and creators tonight,” said Yasmin Rasyid, founder and honorary advisor, Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival. “Their environmental stories have inspired all of us—and our audiences. We thank them for sharing their work at KLEFF.”
In addition to cash awards and in-kind services for the award night, the KLEFF sponsors and partners include Yayasan Hasanah, DHL Malaysia, Tanamera Tropical Spa Products, MAP Publika, The Bee, the French Embassy of Malaysia, the U.S. Embassy of Malaysia, WWF-Malaysia, Tinai Eco Film Fest, Durian Asean, MESYM, Vive, JuiceWorks, Kloth, SCM, Point College, Han Chiang College, the Indonesia Nature Film Society and also Tripda.
Screenings of the award–winning films will take place throughout the weekend of the Festival: Friday 16th October to 18th October at the Black Box, Publika. Specific times and ticketing information are available at www.ecofilmfestival.com.
Apart from environment-themed film screenings, the Festival’s highlights include 76 exhibitors in the Green Market promoting sustainable production and consumption, 20 eco art exhibitions and performances, 11 community workshops on sustainable living and also fringe activities such as giant games for children, and eco-friendly food and beverages.
The Festival presented the winners with sustainably crafted trophies from Gaudio in the United Kingdom.
