On 9 June 2015, EcoKnights partnered with Point College and the U.S. Embassy to hold a five-hour Film Making Workshop with Lawrence ‘Larry’ Johnson, an award-winning American producer and director notable for his personal feature-length documentary, called Stuff.
The audience was comprised of more than 80 students from different backgrounds and schools, ranging from homeschool to college and university level.
Taking examples from his personal and professional experience, Larry Johnson provided an insightful session on using effective and responsible communication to understand cultures. He imparted his vast knowledge to highlight the importance of putting a face to culture in order to bridge differences and foster mutual understanding. Following the screening of a number of his documentaries, Larry Johnson proceeded to elucidate the technicalities of film making, including the meld of music and film shootings, pacing of stories, finding inspiration, and approaching potential subjects.
EcoKnights concluded the workshop with information on the Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival (KLEFF) and encouraged the students to submit their short films and productions on environment to be shown during the 2015 KLEFF.
