On 4th April, 2015, EcoKnights were invited to Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Kampar (Perak) to deliver an environmental talk to the students. The talk was a part of an on-campus event called Youth Environmental Symposium 2015. The symposium started at 8.15 am with a registration, and speeches by Heong Kian Kee Group 4 Director of PR Campaign 2014/15: Volunteerism IV, Assistant Professor Dr. Alia Azalea Dean of Faculty of Art and Social Science, and Ir. Hj. Sanusi bin Awi Deputy Chief Executive Office (Technical) of Solid Waste.
For the morning session, the talks were delivered by Encik Ir. Haji Sanusi bin Awi of Solid Waste Corporation (SWCorp) on “Separation at Source”, and Mr. Matthias Gelber, Assistant of Mother Nature on “It is time for Negawatt Revolution!” The first talk started at 10.30 am whilst the second one at 11.30 am and lasted until 1 pm.
In the afternoon, there were four parallel sessions including EcoKnights. The other three sessions were from the Global Environment Centre, whose talk was on “Sustainable Environmental Pollution Management in Malaysia-Role of Youth”, delivered by Dr. Khalithasan Kailasam, “Conservation in Malaysia” from Mr. Tou Jing Yi from Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) Perak Branch, and Ms Sara Dalina Khairil Anuar of Pertubuhan Perlindungan Khazanah Alam Malaysia (PEKA) delivered a talk on “Deforestation; Challenges, Current Actions & Future Plans.”
EcoKnights’ session started at 2 pm and lasted for one and a half hour. The session was led by Fadly Bakhtiar, and he focused on “Environmental and Volunteerism”. The talk was delivered to about 100 students of both UTAR and UiTM. The session’s purpose was to create awareness among the youth and encourage them to be active in environmental issues, which conjunct with their motto “Think Green, Go Green” for the Youth Environmental Symposium. EcoKnights’ session ended with a token of appreciation from UTAR to EcoKnights, group photo, and a closing ceremony.
