Tabitha

TabithaHi! My name is Tabitha and I’m a University of Melbourne student majoring in Environmental Science. I decided to intern with EcoKnights during my summer break for a period of 6 weeks. Although interns are usually employed for a minimum of three months, I was lucky enough to secure this internship despite only being able to work for 6 weeks. EcoKnights provided me with countless of opportunities to get involved in the planning and executing of big projects, despite just being an intern, and through that, I learned a lot of soft skills that I wouldn’t have learnt elsewhere.

The working environment is amazing and you get to work with people from all different backgrounds, that all share a passion for the environment. Team leaders are helpful in guiding you on new tasks you’ve never done before and the bosses, Fadly and Yasmin are also some of the most dedicated people I know, with so much passion for what they’re doing, and it’s truly something to look up to.

The major project I was tasked with during my time at EcoKnights was a two-week programme in collaboration with ASEAN Foundation, where I was in charge of the behind the scenes work of planning out the project. I would say that the majority of my internship was spent planning for this event and seeing it come into life during my final weeks at EcoKnights was a very rewarding and fulfilling experience. I also got to have a lot of fun whilst executing the project as I learned a lot about sustainable integrated organic farming, food waste management, and I even got to plow paddy fields too!

Overall, it was very nice to see how environmental NGOs operated in Malaysia and I would say that it was definitely a very eye-opening experience as I learned a lot about myself and what I wanted to achieve in life through this internship, and through the people I’ve met during that time.

Thanks EcoKnights for the great experience, I’m glad we cross paths and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for EcoKnights.
