Sungai Bunus is known to be the only river in Kuala Lumpur that starts and ends within the city. This area is one of Sungai Klang’s 11 major tributaries and measures about nine kilometers long. It runs from Setapak, Wangsa Maju and Setiawangsa, through Kampung Baru and the heart of Kuala Lumpur near the Jamek Mosque before it enters Sungai Klang. The river also flows within landmarks including Kampung Baru, National Library, National Heart Institute, National Art Gallery, Istana Budaya, Taman Tititwangsa, Chow Kit Market and Kolej Universiti Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Setapak.
Over the years the river had experienced hydrological changes and become smaller and narrower. When there is no rain, the river is only a place where sewage flows. However, when it rains, water does not seep into the soil or flow into the river which eventually cause runoff and lead to floods.
A few snippets of Sungai Bunus:
There are various parties that are working together to take action upon preserving and saving the livelihood of our treasured rivers. As such, the River of Life (ROL) is a project that is part of Malaysia’s National Transformation Policy and targets to revolutionized eight rivers that transverses the Klang valley.
For the last fews years, we have done variety of environmental program along Sungai Bunus. Feel free to check out the link below for all past program that have being done under Sungai Bunus (click link to read article):
