Environmental Education and Awareness
EcoKnights core focus areas are in education and awareness. Currently there are three flagship programmes that support this:
Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival
The Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival is EcoKnights’ flagship event which aims to engage the Malaysian public on environmental issues through films and videos. Already in its sixth year, EK strategically uses this programme as a platform to engage creative film makers to produce local environmental materials for the international market.
Anugerah Hijau Malaysia - Green Awards Malaysia
Anugerah Hijau or Green Awards is another EK flagship programme that engages youths in addressing environmental issues through three competitive categories: Sustainable Fashion, Eco Architecture and Environmental Film Making. Anugerah Hijau is one of the best environmental programmes in the country.
Knights of Nature Sustainability Camp
Knights of Nature Sustainability Camp is an inspiring and action packed camp specially designed for youths with passionate hearts for Mother Nature. It is not only an exclusive learning experience with our current elite Knights but also an opportunity to build close friendship and have some crazy amount of fun. The curriculum for “Knights of Nature Sustainability Camp” has been developed with a vision of delivering a 3 days 2 nights camp for youths between the ages of 15 and 23. The goal of the camp is to increase youth knowledge and awareness about the global ecological crisis, with the hope that this increased awareness will help moderate the behavior of future generations and inspire political action for positive environmental and social change.
- Increase knowledge on environment and sustainable lifestyle in a fun and creative ambience amongst participants;
- Promote sustainable actions in daily life; and
- Develop positive qualities like teamwork, leadership, time management and problem solving skills.
- Hands-on field explorations related to energy, sustainable agriculture, green architecture and more;
- Amazing fun workshops with industrial experts in sustainability;
- Unique outdoor locations and recreational opportunities throughout beautiful Hulu Langat upper stream ecosystem.
Sentinels of Time - Digital Photography Competition
The Sentinels of Time photography competition is a contest that asks participants to capture digital images of majestic landscapes in urban and rural areas of Malaysia. The idea is to get as many people as possible to record, document, and describe these locations through photos. Because the preservation of Malaysia’s natural beauty is so important, the competition doubles as a platform to enhance the awareness of the need to conserve, protect, and maintain urban and natural landscapes in Malaysia.
The aim of this competition is to engage amateur and professional photographers to “see” natural and urban life as a singular phenomenon that can be important for the entire ecosystem. Because humans and their natural surroundings are necessarily intertwined, the competition’s goal is to highlight and showcase those instances where the two coexist in harmony.
Community Engagement and Development
EcoKnights delivers community-based environmental workshops to engage Malaysians, from all walks of life, on activities that are sustainable and that can be easily adopted at home or in the workplace.
EcoKnights, with their wide variety of expertise, is ready to serve the community through a variety of film screenings, environmental workshops, eco-talks, and other earth-friendly activities. Whether you’re a large corporation seeking to enhance your CSR efforts or a community leader hoping to educate family and friends on environmental sustainability, EcoKnights can bring environmental education and awareness to your doorstep.
A collaborative effort with Sabah based NGO, Blue Life; this project is about delivering safe drinking water to villagers on the island of Mantanani. This project also works closely with communities on Mantanani to develop alternative livelihoods to existing fisheries with the aim of ensuring that the livelihoods of the present population are sustainable.
The Cintai Tioman Program is an integrated approach to assist in increasing the ecological and social resilience of the Island of Tioman.
From activities on coral reef rehabilitation to community-based engagements, Cintai Tioman aims to help reduce the impact of human activites on coral reefs around Tioman Island, and also empower the local communities to get involved in the management and conservation of the island’s resources.
The Cintai Tioman Campaign is initiated by Reef Check Malaysia and EcoKnights, with the support of Yayasan Sime Darby, UNDP-SGP and HSBC Amanah Takaful.
